Here we are, a couple of days into CeBIT in Hannover, Germany. GreenBytes' recently announced globally optimized all-SSD storage array, Solidarity, is getting a lot of attention at the Losstech/comTeam (Germany-based reseller partner) booth. 

Paul Silver recently joined GreenBytes and serves as VP, EMEA where he is responsible for driving GreenBytes sales and channel activities throughout the region, as well as overseeing the management of the company’s offices in London, UK. I recently sat down with Paul to discuss his new position with GreenBytes and what he hopes to accomplish in 2012.

It's hard to believe that we're just a little over two weeks out from IP Expo, October 19-20 in London. We have a major product announcement coming on the first day of the event on the 19th, and if you've been following us on Twitter (or if you have recently visited our homepage), we've been dropping some not-so-subtle hints as to what we plan to unleash on the storage universe very shortly.

The question is often asked: What are the pros and cons of file-based deduplication vs. block-based? The reality is, it depends. It depends on the data and the likelihood for duplicates to exist, regardless of file or block.

One of life’s great luxuries is time. In the case of storage systems, time spent on the problem leads to refinement. At GreenBytes, we have spent the last four years focused on developing a high-performance and stable storage system that delivers the performance of flash storage and the economy of magnetic storage.

SPS, Dutch developer of IT-management software Gensys and specialist in outsourced services, purchased GreenBytes GB-2000 data storage appliances for the Gensys management environment and cloud to facilitate VDI and DR services that SPS is offering to their customers via its Gensys Business Service Management Solution.

The incessant growth of data, the rising energy costs linked to powering and cooling data centers, and the fact that some areas of major cities have reached the ceiling of available power, means that IT directors are demanding innovative products to serve their users and grow their business in an energy-neutral manner.

A week from tomorrow, the GreenTeam will be out in full force in Barcelona for Symantec Vision. GreenBytes has seen significant traction in the European market since we formally announced our entry there earlier this year, and we are looking forward to meeting with those who were unable to make it to Symantec Vision in Las Vegas earlier in the year, and reconnecting with those of you who did.

Although it has not yet been formally announced by Oracle, rumors abound that there could be changes coming for its OpenSolaris community. Anyone who is familiar with GreenBytes and our products knows that OpenSolaris is a component of our data storage solutions. Thus, with the potential changes appearing on the horizon for OpenSolaris, it’s certainly a fair question to ask, “What will this mean for GreenBytes, our products, customers and partners?”
